Waymo gains approval for transporting passengers in self-driving cars in California

As Waymo continues its push for a driverless future, the Alphabet company is trying to expand to more regions. This week, the state of California has granted Waymo a permit to transport passengers in its self-driving vehicles.First spotted by TechCrunch, the California Public Utilities Commission granted a permit on Tuesday for Waymo to participate in an Autonomous Vehicle Passenger Service Pilot program. Currently, over 60 companies have permits to test self-driving vehicles in the state, but Waymo’s permit differs. This permit from the CPUC gives the company permission to transport people in its self-driving vehicles on state roads. However, this permit still has some restrictions. Waymo can’t charge passengers for these rides and safety drivers must still be behind the wheel. Reports must also be provided to the CPUC on safety protocols and total passenger miles traveled. The CPUC also gave Waymo permission to contract out the required safety operators after the company argued that scale would require third-party staffing. Those drivers will still go through Waymo’s training program, though. In a statement, a Waymo spokesperson hinted at how this permit would be used, making it clear that the company would like to eventually accomplish what’s been done in Phoenix. The CPUC allows us to participate in their pilot program, giving Waymo employees the ability to hail our vehicles and bring guests on rides within our South Bay territory. This is the next step in our path to eventually expand and offer more Californians opportunities to access our self-driving technology, just as we have gradually done with Waymo One in Metro Phoenix.

How to Maintain Your Car’s Pristine Condition

A brand-new car won’t look pristine forever, but with proper care and maintenance, it can preserve its appearance for a really long time. Here’s how.Commit to Regular WashingFor a car to stay fresh, regular washing is mandatory. As a general rule of thumb, you should wash your car at least once every two weeks to prevent dirt and grime from adhering and causing damage to your paint, but it could be done more often if you drive on dirt roads or salted roads more frequently.Don’t Skimp on WaxingA coat of wax on your car gives it a polished look and prevents the paint from fading, thus making your car look like it just got out of the dealership. Before waxing your car, make sure you have washed it first, and leave the wax on for 20 to 25 minutes before wiping off.Remember that the Insides are Important TooHaving a sleek car on the outside is useless if the interior reeks or is messy. Avoid leaving smelly items such as dirty clothes or food containers to prevent the buildup of unwanted odors, and use deodorizers as necessary. Regular vacuuming can also keep your interiors clean and fresh.Invest in Paint ProtectionReversing paint damage is a much more difficult and expensive process, which is why when it comes to vehicles, prevention is always better than cure! Investing in professional services such as ceramic coating or clear bra provides added protection to your paint for the years to come. Visit for paint protection Denver.

How to Donate Your Car to Charity

If you have an old car that is taking up space in the garage, you should consider donating it for charity. Charities will collect and sell used cars, then use the money for a good cause, while you get a tax-deductible receipt for the value of the car. If that sounds like an interesting option, here’s how you can go about donating a car.Step #1 - Find a local charityThere are hundreds of charities around the United States that accept car donations, but most of them only operate in a few regions. You can figure out which car donation charities operate in your region by doing some research, and by enlisting the help of charity registries like the one at #2 - Get in touchYou can get in touch with the charity through their donation phone number or the form on their website. Their team will collect all the information they need for the donation paperwork, and help you figure out all the fine details of how the donation will go.Step #3 - Clear out personal belongingsAny personal items left in the car will be impossible to recover after the vehicle has been auctioned off, so be thorough when emptying out the car.Step #4 - Make pickup arrangementsThe final step is agreeing on a time and place for the charity team to pick up the car. Most charities have the means to collect cars directly from donors, and cars can be donated even if they are no longer running.
