Biology for Engineering -by Johnson and Arthur T.

Engineers and scientists can each study biology. Yet, the ultimate purpose of this study is different for the two groups. Understanding the characteristics and purposes of engineers and bioscientists can explain the approach taken toward the field of biology in this text. Thus, we begin by contrasting these two fields and distinguishing between them. It consists of a book by Johnson, Arthur T. It is an ultimate book of biology for engineers. It is shared with me by a student studying at NMIMS, Mumbai, and I thought of uploading it here so that the students of first and second-year civil engineering would benefit a lot from it. Thank You! Enjoy learning.

Cholera

Cholera is a bacterial infection that causes diarrhea. The cholera bacterium is usually found in water or food that has been contaminated by feces (poop). Cholera is rare in the US. You may get it if you travel to parts of the world with poor water and sewage treatment.

Typhoid

Typhoid fever is caused by Salmonella typhi bacteria. Typhoid fever is rare in industrialized countries. However, it remains a serious health threat in the developing world, especially for children. Typhoid fever spreads through contaminated food and water or through close contact with someone who's infected.

Classification of microbes

Microbiology is the study of microscopic organisms, those being unicellular (single cell), multicellular (cell colony), or acellular (lacking cells). ... Bacteria, fungi, viruses, protozoa, and algae are the major groups of microorganisms. The vast majority of microorganisms are not harmful but rather beneficial. a microorganism, especially a bacterium causing disease or fermentation is a microbe.

METALS IN BIOLOGY

Metals play an important role in biological systems. As catalytic or structural cofactors, metal ions are critical to the function of up to an estimated one-third of all enzymes. Additionally, metals play diverse roles in biology.

Topic - bsc , neet , 12th genetic coding , gene and genome explanation briefly

A gene is the basic physical and functional unit of heredity. Genes are made up of DNA. Some genes act as instructions to make molecules called proteins. However, many genes do not code for proteins. In humans, genes vary in size from a few hundred DNA bases to more than 2 million bases. In biology, a gene is a sequence of nucleotides in DNA or RNA that encodes the synthesis of a gene product, either RNA or protein. During gene expression, the DNA is first copied into RNA. The RNA can be directly functional or be the intermediate template for a protein that performs a function . In the fields of molecular biology and genetics, a genome is the genetic material of an organism. It consists of DNA. The genome includes both the genes and the noncoding DNA, as well as mitochondrial DNA and chloroplast DNA. The study of the genome is called genomics . DNA is the molecule that is the hereditary material in all living cells. Genes are made of DNA, and so is the genome itself. A gene consists of enough DNA to code for one protein, and a genome is simply the sum total of an organism's DNA.Genome is defined as all of a somatic cell's genetic information, or a set of haploid chromosomes. An example of a genome is what determines the physical characteristics of a person.Since the mutation is A - G, there are three genome types exist - namely, AA, AG, and GG

Biology sample paper -1 part -1 class 11th cbse

Biology class 11th sample paper about living world , biological classification , plant kingdom, animal kingdom , structural organisations in animals , cell , biomolecules , cell cycle and cell division , transport in plants , mineral nutrition , respiration in plants , plant growth and development , digestion and absorption , breathing and exchange of gases etc Biology sample paper -1 part -1 class 11th cbse . Sample papers are important preparation material used by almost all students during revision for their board exams. Solving sample papers helps a student to understand the pattern of the question paper and the marking scheme of the board question paper. The sample paper is based on the actual question paper format which helps students in getting an overview of the paper pattern including the type of questions like short or long answer type questions, mostly asked topics, marks distribution, etcWhereas sample papers usually have more difficult questions. I wouldn't recommend a person to go through the sample paper a day or two before the exam unless he/she is super confident with the curriculum (don't try testing your confidence). Going through the previous year papers would make better sense.(i) Before solving the sample paper of a particular subject, make sure that you have covered the whole syllabus of that subject. (ii) Solve the sample papers with pen and paper just the way you do in an exam. Do not solve questions orally by applying mind calculations . Attributes of a good question paper. The question paper setter and evaluator should fulfill their assignment with great honesty, dedication, integrity and seriousness. ... A question paper is the basic tool used in an examination. Sometimes, question papers are under debate for their levels of toughness and lengthy content .
