        JUDICIARY UNDER SCRUTINY

JUDICIARY UNDER SCRUTINY The Indian Judiciary System seems to be in a dire need for a change in its functioning – and that too, a substantial change. After 63 years of adopting the ‘republican’ status, Indian judiciary seems to be put under the scrutiny of the populace. Instead of looking at the achievements of this particular system of government, we ought to start eyeing the drawbacks of it. Apart from all the glory of this apex, justified and sacred institution, we have to peep into the black holes of it so that we can change its inefficiency into prominent and effective verdicts. “7.5 MILLION cases are still pending in courts across the nation as by the end of 2011”, this information was given by Mr. Mann Kumar Mishra, Chairman, Bar Council Of India, on 24 January 2013. The ‘year’ seems to be a little previous, but if you can believe, then please believe me that it is the most recent information on records. According to the 2011 Report of NCRB (National Crime Records Bureau), a total of 72, 58,302 cases for offences under the IPC (Indian Penal Code) are still pending across the nation. And in the country’s capital, 2, 00,334 cases remain awaiting justice. This information is not supposed to condemn the existing system of justice or to offend the respect of ‘the high command’ by any means. Nevertheless, it is absolutely shocking to hear. These figures, mentioned above, are not just cases but 72 million (probably more) lives at stake, going through depression and a phase of blasphemy. Many of them are innocent, a few culprits; but both are being subjected to hostility and resentment. The Indian system of justice tries to protect the innocent even if it has to let go of the culprits, but the truth today seems that the innocent are paying for the acts of those who should be punished and who somehow are able to get off the hook pretty easily. The ‘under-trials’ spend more time awaiting court dates than their actual punishments that they deserve. Through this tiresome and elastic ordeal, these lives try their best to defend themselves and dodge the incarceration. The cases of terrorism come across as to be of high importance, since they have direct effect on the common public. Then, is it not difficult to grasp that for those 85 serial bomb blasts that took place between 1993-2013, 700 people were taken under custody and only 27 of them were punished? And the time taken, for the few proven verdicts, stretched on like rubber bands until they lost the value in the eyes of the common man? It is not to reprimand the ‘Justice of India’, but just evaluate the message we send across to the world and more importantly to the people of our own country.  The common man, for who ‘Justice’ is only for the riches, but who believes in the assurance of our ‘Constitution’, still retains some faith in the Judicial System. They have not yet given up on the statue of the ‘lady blindfolded by the black cloth’. To comprehend that ‘justice delayed is not justice denied’, but the mere fact that justice once delayed loses its meaning to an extent, beyond restoration. We have not given up this battle yet. We will hold our ground till we change this battle for peace into peace itself. But what we need to execute in order to maintain the people’s faith in the judiciary is to stop spending and start mending.

FEMINISM - THE RIGHTEOUS THING!

Feminism is a social movement that denotes the imbalance in society because of the unequal status of man and woman who are like the two eyes in the face. Like the bane of casteism in society, casteism which has created irrevocable divisions among people and which is the greatest social evil, like religious intolerance, which is a very unhealthy indication of man’s outlook, which creates cleavage between one segment of the population and another, the gender equation issue is assuming greater and greater proportions of gravity. The social awareness among women is the indication of society’s advancement. Spirited women whose blood boils as they are mentally agitated by the domineering attitude of the men folk who have long been nurtured in the unjust feeling that they are superior, keep the flag flying. They want to flight to a finish and their unrelenting agitations for a change in the behavioral norms of the autocratic men folk will bring about a better order if not today but at least in the near future. Even now, even the enlightened aged women in society harass their daughters-in-law being far behind in time, being still in a bygone age when the mother-in-law and the daughter-in-law clash was at its highest. The age-long confrontation between a mother-in-law and a daughter-in-law seems to be endless. Sometimes, a husband turns wild with anger at his meek wife and spurns her and spits on her. Feminism is a word that often finds a place in the newspapers and the magazines. Feminism is the subject of talk in the radio and the television. Though the feminist movement is very active in countries like the USA and Britain even there women are still given a back seat. It is generally said that women belong to the weaker sex. They are by nature gentle, soft-spoken and shy. But there are women who can outdo men in assertiveness, dominance and aggressiveness.

Briefing on Politics

What is politics?  a.) The activities associated with the governance of a country or area, especially the debate between parties having power.  b.) Activities aimed at improving someone's status or increasing power within an organization.  These are the two top googled meanings.  For me, politics is an important part of a society.  But, unknowingly with the time, the way we have outweighed the definition of politics is completely parochial.  The word politics is mainly used in context of politicians. Let us focus on a few references.  a.) When you try to sponsor your thoughts and interests in order to get your things done, may what come, people who are jealous of you, say you play dirty politics.  b.) A politician makes false promises and claims them to complete once he comes in power. That's politics. It's the choice of the public whether they talk ill of him or give him full support. There are always three groups. They are categorised. If the politician doesn't adhere to what his policies should be, he plays politics for any one of the groups. The second group gives him full support. And, the third group is always neutral. They don't care what politics is and they refrain themselves from having a discrete opinion, which at some points, is minimally wrong.  c.) If a student gets good grades and his father works as a teacher in the same school, oftentimes he gets bullied. He has to go through sick remarks. At a much advanced level, other students inadequately think his father gives him all the questions before exams, and thus politics.  So, there is a strife among paradoxial and definitions which we have accepted with time which is mindlessly awful.  Look, there is always a confrontation.  Politics, according to me, is an important part of the society because no society can exist without any political organisations.  Collective decision making is an integral part of our daily lives, still people don't find it worthy to engage with.  Point is, as you individually need to sustain, thus as a group needs to sustain as well, and for that there are some widely accepted norms within the society which you are a part of.  Question is (brought to you by Viden.io) , don't these definitions need to be reformed? Or, is it us who need to bring a change? (Image source : WriterBeat )
