Learning Team: Shrinking to Fit(A)

Synopsis Spencer ESTJ ESTJs make good administrators, especially if they remember to consider others' feelings and points of view, which they often dismiss. Which happens to be the case with spencer. He didn’t take into account of his team mates feelings when discussing the case. He was the best contributor to the group and the most prepared as well but his priority was set to completing the work fast rather than involving the entire group in the discussion Moyer ENTJ Moyer being an ENTJ has a dominant personality and wanted her dominance to be felt within the group. When spencer was dominating the discussions, she felt out of place and unproductive. Stewart INTP Stewart was one of the most contributing members in the team. He always comes prepared with the cases and hasn’t really raised his opinion about spencer. Bajaj ENTJ Bajaj like Moyer was an ENTJ and had an interest for quantitative analysis and was able to prepare the QA required for the cases Pressley ISFP Pressley was focused on his work with the recruitment so he would often skip meetings. Manning ESTJ Manning was the other ESTJ in the team. Although during the initial discussions manning was actively participating even so much as to cut off spencer while he was talking he later was focused on the recruitment commitments he had. Whenever manning did come to meetings he would have prepared for those. So, this is similar to the nature of an ESTJ where they are not interested in subjects they see no use for, they can apply themselves when necessary so in this case the learning team was secondary for manning Why did Moyer Feels so Indecisive? Moyer wasn’t sure if everyone felt the same way as her as only two others had openly expressed their opinion. She must have also felt bad for not contributing as much as Spencer yet pointed out his flaws. Spencer’s dominance came as a result of others not being able to catch up with their preparation so they had to depend on Spencer’s preparation in times of high work load. Was confronting Spencer wise? It is stated that ENTJ have a particular skill in calling out others’ failures with a chilling degree of insensitivity, and this is where ENTJs really start to run into trouble. In the case of Moyer, she pointed out the shortcomings of a single person rather than finding the problem with the group as a whole. Every person has their own shortcomings. Some were skipping the meetings and others couldn’t contribute much to subject they have no knowledge of and a few were interested in preparing mainly for their subjects of interests. So, the problem of group doesn’t lie with one person it is important to assess it as a group. So instead of confronting spencer alone she should have asked the group their opinion of how the discussions are going and the steps that can be taken to improve upon this. From spencer’s point of view it may seem like he is being blamed despite contributing so much for the discussions. Where as other want to contribute but does not get the opportunity as they seem to have gotten into the flow where spencer dominates. Finding a middle ground where everyone contributes and no one dominates all the time can be achieved only by taking the decision to the group. The quality of learning declined over the weeks due to
