Swach (Me)

When the SWACH BHARAT CAMPAIGN started, it brought in a lot of Awareness in our society about keeping our environment clean. It was great to see people from all walks of life cleaning the garbage on the road and keeping their surroundings clean. It was a great campaign and we should definitely clean the garbage around us for our well-being and the well-being of society :-) But, have you ever wondered about SWACH (Me) ? I personally believe that if I am clean inside, I will definitely maintain cleanliness outside :-) Let us go a little deeper into this subject. When I talk about being "clean inside", I don't mean brushing my teeth, etc. I mean, have I looked deep inside of me and try to change my Negatives into Positives? It’s easy to preach to others to change, but it takes a lot of Courage, Strength, Willingness & Humility to change ourselves. In my 50 years of my life I have come across only one man who has the humility and the willingness to change himself – Once a year he goes to his wife and asks her to tell him his strengths & weaknesses, because he wants to be a better husband. Then he goes to his daughter and asks her to tell him his strengths & weaknesses because he wants to be a better father. After that he goes to his close friend and asks him to tell him his strengths & weaknesses, because he wants to be a better person. WOW :-) He keeps on trying to be A BETTER HUMAN BEING :-) BIBLE - The sinful nature of a human being wants to do evil, which is just the opposite of what God wants. And God gives us desires that are the opposite of what the sinful nature desires. These two forces are constantly fighting each other, so you are not free to carry out your good intentions. When you follow the desires of your sinful nature, the Negative Qualities are :   Jealousy Outbursts of anger Sexual immorality Impurity  Lustful pleasures Sorcery  Hostility Quarreling Selfish ambition  Dissension  Division Envy,  Drunkenness Wild parties  Getting angry and reacting fast Reaching a place late Laziness Carrying unforgiveness towards people Impatience Intolerance towards people Being abusive Being rude  Low self esteem Hatred Addictions Watching pornography Being non-assertive  Being irresponsible Arrogance Pride, etc But, Godly Living produces Positive Qualities like :  Love Joy Peace Patience Kindness Goodness Faithfulness Gentleness Self-control  Assertiveness  Forgiving others Tolerance Compassion Non-judgmental Respect for others Holy lifestyle Helping and serving others Responsible Purity of heart High self esteem Self-control Humility, etc (Galatians 5:17, 19-22) If I really want the BEST out of life, why don't I give my BEST to life ? In other words, why don't I introspect and see which are the areas I need to change in myself? What are my weaknesses ?  Once I am aware of my weaknesses and I make an EFFORT to change my Weaknesses into Strengths, that's what I call as SWACH (Me) and that is GODLY WISDOM :-) And once you start cleaning your inside and change your Negatives into Positives, then automatically you will be : A Better Husband A Better Wife  A Better Daughter A Better Son A Better Father A Better Mother A Better Student A Better Teacher A Better Brother A Better Sister A Better Employee A Better Manager A Better Businessman A Better Boss, etc OVERALL YOU WILL BE A BETTER HUMAN BEING :-) And once you are a Good Human Being on the inside, then naturally you will not throw garbage outside. you will not judge people. you will not be rude with others, etc. Let's take this as a Challenge. Let's introspect ourselves and change our Weaknesses into Strengths :-) How do we do this Exercise ? Its very simple - Sit down in a quiet place with a notebook and a pen. Then introspect yourself and go deep into your nature and see which are your Good and Bad Qualities and write them down. After writing down all your Good and bad Qualities in the notebook, have a look at it. When you see your Good Qualities in the notebook, pat yourself at the back and appreciate yourself :-) And when you see the Bad Qualities in the notebook, make a note of it and change those Bad Qualities into Good Qualities :-) Change those Weaknesses into Strengths :-)   Yes, you cannot change overnight. But, MAKE A START. Remember, any Habit, whether Good or Bad, is formed with Practice. So, if you start Changing your Weaknesses into Strengths and keep on and on and on and on working on it, then one day will come that you will become AN AWESOME HUMAN BEING, having AN AWESOME PERSONALITY :-) And whatever work you do, it will be EXCELLENT and you will PROSPER in every area of your Life :-) You will Prosper in your education, job, business, health, relationships, finances, etc :-) THEN YOU WILL BE HAPPY, THE PEOPLE AROUND YOU WILL BE HAPPY, GOD WILL BE HAPPY WITH YOU & THE WHOLE ENVIRONMENT AROUND YOU WILL CHANGE FOR THE BETTER :-) You will SHINE and INDIA will SHINE like a DIAMOND for the Glory of God :-) NOTE : I am a Counselor, so if you need guidance on how to change your weaknesses into strengths, then feel free to msg me on my WhatsApp No, 9880162325 and I will guide you. God bless, Amit

Elevation in buildings can affect the decisions we

People rely on financial managers, doctors and lawyers to be as objective as possible when making decisions about investments, health and legal issues, but findings from a new study suggest that an unexpected factor could be influencing these choices. In a series of experiments, researchers found that people at higher elevations in an office building were more willing to take financial risks. The study is available online in the Journal of Consumer Psychology. "When you increase elevation, there is a subconscious effect on the sense of power," says lead author Sina Esteky, PhD, an assistant professor of marketing in the business school at Miami University. "This heighted feeling of power results in more risk-seeking behavior." In a pilot study, the researchers analyzed data from more than 3,000 hedge funds throughout the world that accounted for assets over $500 billion. They correlated the level of volatility of the fund with the floor level of the firm -- which ranged from the first to the 96th floor. The researchers found a slight but significant correlation between increased elevation and the volatility of the fund. Esteky's team also conducted experiments in which participants were asked to make a betting decision as they were either ascending or descending in the glass elevator of a tall building. The participants who were going up to the 72rd floor were more likely to opt for the risky lottery that could result in either a small or significant win. Those who were descending preferred the conservative lottery with either a moderate or slightly larger win. In another experiment, participants were either on the ground floor or third floor of a university building, and they were asked to make 10 decisions with differing levels of risk and payoff. Again, the researchers found that participants on the third floor more frequently chose risky options than their ground floor counterparts. To better understand the reason for this behavior, participants completed a series of unfinished words, and people on the third floor were more likely to create words associated with power than the participants on the ground floor. The researchers believe that increased power-related thoughts might explain how elevation affects risk preferences. Esteky suggests that elevation of an office building may be one reason certain hedge fund managers are willing to invest in risky assets such as Bitcoin, a cryptocurrency and worldwide payment system that is highly volatile. Although this study was limited to financial decisions, further studies could show whether the subconscious effect of elevation influences other professionals like doctors who are choosing treatment plans for patients, Esteky says. In another experiment, he discovered that people were more open to taking a sensory risk by trying an unfamiliar fruit when they were at a higher elevation in a building. Although the implications of these findings could be unsettling for consumers who are relying on themselves or paid experts to make rational choices, the elevation effect vanished when participants were informed that floor level influences behavior, Esteky explains. The effect also disappeared when people could not see that they were on a higher floor level, such as those in cubicles without a window view. "The important lesson is that when people become aware of the potential impact of elevation, it doesn't happen anymore," Esteky says. "The brain is very susceptive to subtle situational factors, but also really good at correcting for such effects, so awareness can help us be more rational in our decisions."

Compassionate vs. Passionate Love

According to psychologist Elaine Hatfield and her colleagues, there are two basic types of love: Compassionate love Passionate love Compassionate love is characterized by mutual respect, attachment, affection, and trust. Compassionate love usually develops out of feelings of mutual understanding and shared respect for one another. Passionate love is characterized by intense emotions, sexual attraction, anxiety, and affection. When these intense emotions are reciprocated, people feel elated and fulfilled. Unreciprocated love leads to feelings of despondency and despair. Hatfield suggests that passionate love is transitory, usually lasting between 6 and 30 months. Hatfield also suggests that passionate love arises when cultural expectations encourage falling in love, when the person meets your preconceived ideas of an ideal love, and when you experience heightened physiological arousal in the presence of the other person. Ideally, passionate love then leads to compassionate love, which is far more enduring. While most people desire relationships that combine the security and stability of compassionate with intense passionate love, Hatfield believes that this is rare.

The Color Wheel Model of Love

In his 1973 book The Colors of Love, psychologist John Lee compared styles of love to the color wheel. Just as there are three primary colors, Lee suggested that there are three primary styles of love. These three styles of love are: Eros: The term eros stems from the Greek word meaning "passionate" or "erotic." Lee suggested that this type of love involves both physical and emotional passion.  Ludos: Ludos comes from the Greek word meaning "game." This form of love is conceived as playful and fun, but not necessarily serious. Those who exhibit this form of love are not ready for commitment and are wary of too much intimacy. Storge: Storge stems from the Greek term meaning "natural affection." This form of love is often represented by familial love between parents and children, siblings, and extended family members. This type of love can also develop out of friendship where people who share interests and commitments gradually develop affection for one another. Continuing the color wheel analogy, Lee proposed that just as the primary colors can be combined to create complementary colors, these three primary styles of love could be combined to create nine different secondary love styles. For example, combining Eros and Ludos results in mania or obsessive love.

Liking vs. Loving

Psychologist Zick Rubin proposed that romantic love is made up of three elements: Attachment Caring Intimacy Rubin believed that sometimes we experience a great amount of appreciation and admiration for others. We enjoy spending time with them and want to be around them, but this doesn't necessarily qualify as love. Instead, Rubin referred to this as liking. Love, on the other hand, is much deeper, more intense, and includes a strong desire for physical intimacy and contact. People who are "in like" enjoy each other's company, while those who are "in love" care as much about the other person's needs as they do their own. Attachment is the need to receive care, approval, and physical contact with the other person. Caring involves valuing the other person needs and happiness as much as your own. Intimacy refers to the sharing of thoughts, desires, and feelings with the other person. Based upon this definition, Rubin devised a questionnaire to assess attitudes about others and found that these scales of liking and loving provided support for his conception of love.

Independent and dependent variable (Attitude)

The article is about Atttitude (Organizationl Behaviour) and the parameters of attitude namely , dependent variable and independent variable .  Independent Variable : Personality and motivation Dependent Variable : Productivity and Job Satisfaction  In an organisation , productivity and job satisfaction are dependent upon a person’s personality and motivation.People’s behaviour changes when they are demoted from their position ,but whether it is positive or negative is what all that matters .  Example : Steven Paul Jobs , Chairman , CEO and Co-founder of Apple Inc., despite a forceful resignation from Apple on 1985 , founded NeXT Computers , a technologically advanced , highly innovative and with built-in ethernet port , and was marketed mainly for academic community. Tim-Berners Lee invented World Wide Web in 1989 at CERN in Switzerland using NeXT computer.  This invention was made possible only because of his Positive attitude and his motivation to invent products . His positive attitude also made him to fund The Graphics Group , now known as Pixar , a subsidiary of Walt Disney Group . Jobs joined Apple in 1996 even after that great humiliation leading him to resign only because of his job satisfaction .

Be Grateful

BE GRATEFUL ? The qualification that gave you a job is the same qualification someone has who still does not have a job.         Be grateful.      The prayer that God answered for you is the same prayer others have been praying but without success.             Be grateful. The road you use safely on a daily basis is the same road where many others lost their precious lives.            Be grateful. The temple in which God blessed you is the same temple other people too worship in, yet  their lives are still in discord.            Be grateful. The bed you used in the hospital, you got healed and were discharged is  the same bed many other people breathed their last.              Be grateful. The rain that made your field produce good crops is the same rain that devastated  someone else's field.           Be grateful. Be grateful because whatever you have is not by...your power, your  might, your talent or your qualifications.. but it's just the "Grace of God."  HE is the giver of everything you have...   For everything you have... Be Grateful ? God bless, Amit

Keep On Doing Good Even If You Get Bad In Return

When you do something good for people, don't expect that in return they will show kindness to you. That's one of the biggest mistakes we can make. The root of all hurts is expectations.  We do good for people. People receive good from us and then they forget. Just because people who received good from you forgot the good that you did to them and they don't repay your goodness with goodness, that should NOT change you from doing good to people. You like doing good to people because YOU ARE A GOOD PERSON ? God has put this Beautiful Quality in you to do "Good" for people, so dont change your Beautiful Nature for some ungrateful people who don't understand you. Continue doing good to people even if you get bad in return ? In the last 16 years of Social Work that I am doing, I have showered my father's love on thousands of young people, guiding and mentoring them to be happy and successful in life. Sometimes I receive phone calls at 2 am in the morning from students and young people who are disturbed and want guidance on some issues. Many times I take young people to doctors when they have health issues, as they stay in a PG in Bangalore because their parents stay in another state. I feed physically challenged people on many occasions. I counsel and guide hundreds of students and elders on the phone whenever they have problems and many times I meet young people outside whenever they want to share their personal problems with me and I guide them as a father-figure and their best friend. In the process of doing good to people, in return, many times people have hurt me and left me. At times I have even received threatening calls from people. But, I still continue to do good for society. And I will never stop doing good to people, as this is a Godly Assignment in my life. Whenever I do something good for someone, I have a Heavenly, Blessed Experience :-) I do good to people for the Glory Of God and I know that God will reward me in His Time :-)  So, Keep on doing good to people even if you get bad in return :-) The Society may not understand you, but God does :-) God sees your Beautiful, Caring, Loving and Compassionate Heart and He will REWARD you in His Time :-) MAY GOD BLESS YOU AND USE YOU AS A BLESSING FOR OTHERS :-):-):-) God bless, Amit

Animal images used in marketing may skew public

Many of the world's most charismatic animal species -- those that attract the largest interest and deepest empathy from the public -- are at high risk of extinction in part because many people believe their iconic stature guarantees their survival. A new international study published today in PLOS Biologysuggests that the popularity of tigers, lions, polar bears and others may actually contribute to the species' downfall. The researchers used a combination of online surveys, school questionnaires, zoo websites and animated films to identify the 10 most charismatic animals. The top three were tigers, lions and elephants, followed by giraffes, leopards, pandas, cheetahs, polar bears, gray wolves and gorillas. "I was surprised to see that although these 10 animals are the most charismatic, a major threat faced by nearly all of them is direct killing by humans, especially from hunting and snaring," said William Ripple, a distinguished professor of forest ecology at Oregon State University and a co-author on the study. "This killing by humans seems sadly ironic to me, as these are some of our most beloved wild animals." Many of these animals are so frequently depicted in pop culture and marketing materials that they may constitute a deceptive "virtual population" that is doing better in the media than in nature, noted lead author Franck Courchamp of the University of Paris. The researchers found, for example, that the average French citizen will see more virtual lions through photos, cartoons, logos and brands in one month than there are wild lions left in West Africa. "Unknowingly, companies using giraffes, cheetahs or polar bears for marketing purposes may be actively contributing to the false perception that these animals are not at risk of extinction, and therefore not in need of conservation," Courchamp said. In their paper, the researchers propose that companies using images of threatened species for marketing purposes provide information to promote their conservation, and perhaps part of their revenue for protection of the species. Endangered species conservation efforts are numerous, though splintered. The researchers note that 20 million Americans took to the streets in 1970 to demonstrate on the first Earth Day, but there hasn't been a similar mobilization for conservation since. Oregon State's Ripple said the concept of charismatic species is pervasive in conservation literature and the public may assume that efforts to ensure their survival are in place and successful. "Even much of the literature emphasizes the need to go beyond charismatic species and focus on the lesser known ones," Ripple said. "The public may be taking for granted that we're doing all we can to save them, when we don't even know for certain how many elephants, gorillas, or polar bears exist in the wild." The status of most of the top charismatic species is cause for alarm, Ripple pointed out. The abundance of tigers in the wild is estimated to be less than 7 percent of their historic number, and at least three sub-species -- Bali, Javan and Caspian tigers -- are now extinct. Lions are declining almost everywhere in Africa, with populations estimated to be at less than 8 percent of historic levels; only 175 individuals are thought to exist in Eurasia -- all of these are in India. The African forest elephant has declined by 62 percent in the last nine years, while savannah elephants are thought to be at less than 10 percent of their historic numbers -- mostly because of poaching. Fewer than 2,000 pandas remain, occupying less than 1 percent of their historic range and their future is uncertain because of climate change. "The top 10 charismatic animals are all mammals and include some of the largest carnivores and largest herbivores in the terrestrial world," Ripple said. "The fact that humans are also large mammals might explain why the public has a strong affinity for these 10 mammals -- it seems like people also love large animals much more than small ones." Nearly half (48.6 percent) of all the non-teddy bear stuffed animals sold in the United States on Amazon were one of the 10 charismatic animals, while in France some 800,000 "Sophie the giraffe" baby toys were sold in 2010 -- more than eight times the numbers of giraffes living in Africa. "The appearance of these beloved animals in stores, in movies, on television, and on a variety of products seems to be deluding the public into believing they are doing okay," Ripple said. "If we don't act in a concerted effort to save these species, that may soon be the only way anyone will see them."

Triangular Theory of Love

Psychologist Robert Sternberg proposed a triangular theory suggesting that there are three components of love: Intimacy Passion Commitment Different combinations of these three components result in different types of love. For example, combining intimacy and commitment results in companionate love, while combining passion and intimacy leads to romantic love. According to Sternberg, relationships built on two or more elements are more enduring than those based on a single component. Sternberg uses the term consummate love to describe combining intimacy, passion, and commitment. While this type of love is the strongest and most enduring, Sternberg suggests that this type of love is rare.
